Carol Hosking-Smith studied Art and Design full-time at Reigate School of Art in Croydon and Chelsea School of Art. She completed her post-graduate studies at Central St Martins School of Art in London.

Since leaving college, she was employed as a textile designer for one-and-a-half years, then freelanced as a painter, illustrator and designer, selling paintings, designs and working on commissions in the UK and abroad – in America, Italy, Japan, France and Germany. Commissions included four large collages for the Frankfurt Design Fair. In 2001, she painted on-site at a private view for an exhibition at Withers, City of London.
