Associate Membership

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP OF THE PENWITH SOCIETY OF ARTS

The Penwith Society of Arts was formed as a breakaway movement from the St. Ives Society in 1949. Such luminaries as Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and Bernard Leach were among the instigators. Ever since the inception of the Penwith Society there have been Associate members.

Associate membership entitles you to submit work for the three annual Associate exhibitions held at the Penwith Gallery.  Work submitted goes before a selection committee made up of PSA members, who choose which pieces will be exhibited.  (Please note that Associate membership does not guarantee selection of work, merely the right to submit.)

Membership runs annually from 1st January – 31st December.  Although you can join as an Associate member at any point during the year, please note that the membership fee remains the same and your membership will still need to be renewed the following January.

It’s important to note that you must be available to drop in artwork to us on each specified hand in date. You also need to be available to pick up any unselected work 2 days after each hand in date. We cannot store work after exhibitions, so it’s important that any unsold selected works can be collected on the specified take down dates that we share before each show. All work must be for sale and if sold we always ask artists for replacement works.

Unlike full PSA membership, Associate members do not have to be local to Cornwall.  However, you will need to be available to drop off your work on the correct day for Associate submissions, to pick up unselected work two days later, and to pick up any unsold work from the Associate exhibitions on the dates the exhibitions close.  The gallery has very limited storage and is unable to wrap and courier work to Associates, so please bear this in mind before applying.

In order to apply for Associate membership, you will need to fill in the application form and pay the annual fee of £40 (£20 for students with a valid student card).   The fee can be paid by BACS (please see bank details on form), by cheque made out to The Penwith Society of Arts, or by bringing cash into the gallery.  We are unable to accept card payments for membership.  Associate membership forms are also available from the gallery.
