Margrit Clegg

Margrit was born in Bremen, Germany, but moved to London and studied at The Wimbledon School of Art, gaining a BA (Hons) in Fine Art followed by a postgraduate diploma in print making. Margrit moved to St Ives in 1994.

Artist statement:

“For many years my work has been influenced by Zen philosophy. Zen means stillness and it is my aim to create images and objects which reflect some of the aesthetics of Zen such as simplicity, clarity and restraint to convey a feeling of serenity.

I like tactile earthiness and my pictures are built rather than painted. I use all sorts of natural raw materials which have been the source of our creativity since pre-historic times.”
