Opening event: Friday 21st July 17:30 onwards, all welcome!

The Penwith Gallery and Penwith Gallery Archive are delighted to announce that our next exhibition in The Hepworth Room is a series of limited edition prints by renowned photographer Brian Seed. Born in 1929, Brian is known for his iconic photographs of international figures such as Marilyn Monroe, Winston Churchill, politicians, classical musicians, actors and authors, as well as for his landscape photography. He joined Time Life in London at the age of 16 as an office boy and worked as an assistant to photographer Cornell Capa, before working as a photographer for Life Magazine/Time/Sports Illustrated & Fortune for several decades. He was also the main photographer for Time Life’s books on London and Ireland. Brian’s photographs are represented in the Tate, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the National Gallery. His time spent photographing the Cornish artists associated with the Penwith Gallery is among his most treasured memories, and his photos of the Cornish artists among his favourite of his entire career. These limited edition photographs of Barbara Hepworth, Terry Frost, Patrick Heron, Bernard Leach and John Wells have been restored to their original brilliance by the photographer and pioneering photographic printer Hugh Gilbert. This exhibition not only highlights Brian’s incredible talent but will also be showing artworks from the artists featured in his photographs side by side. The exhibition opens on the 1st of July and we couldn’t be more thrilled.
