Michael Sheppard was born in Yorkshire and studied at Wakefield College of Art, Leeds College of Art and Nottingham University.
He has exhibited in galleries throughout the UK and USA, including the Hart Gallery in London and the Westminster Gallery in Boston, USA. He is a Member of the Penwith Society of Arts, and so his work is also regularly on show at the historic Penwith Gallery in St Ives.
He lives and works at the coastal edge of Cornwall in West Penwith, where the ever-changing light visually dissolves forms by its intensity, and says of his work:
‘It is my belief that the purpose of landscape painting is to convey the spirit of place, the sense of belonging and the visual excitement of the world in a two-dimensional way.’
Michael’s works are held in public and private collections in the UK, USA, Germany and Japan.
