Jeremy Le Grice, on show in our Corner Gallery Feb-May 2020

The pictures in this area are the work of Jeremy Le Grice, who was a founder member of the Penwith Gallery.

Early in Le Grice’s career Peter Lanyon was a great mentor, encouraged him in his work, and brought visiting galleries to his studio in St JustHe attended Peter Lanyon’s first summer school, which was held in the studios above this gallery. He subsequently went on to the Slade in London.

Le Grice lived and worked intensively in St Just, where he became particularly friendly with Karl Weschke, and Roger and Rose Hilton, his close neighbours.

This selection of pictures includes landscapes of West Penwith, especially the distinctive stone cottages, the wild coast and a black hull.
